2009 TRAINING IS REQUIRED. If you do not attend the 2009 training, you will be moved to the back of the line for all scheduling for the 2009 season. Please be on time for all meetings. Attendance will be taken and late arrivals will not be counted. There will be a written test and full evaluation at the end of the training for ALL umpires and only the umpires who receive a satisfactory evaluation will be permitted to umpire. If you attend all of the training days, you should not have a problem with either of them. If you fail to meet the evaluation requirements, then we will allow you to return any uniform items purchased from the league with a full refund. Our umpires are required to purchase their own uniforms that meet the league's uniform requirements. You can purchase uniform items through the league, or outside sources. There is a $5 league fee required before the league will schedule you for games, the fee is charged to cover training sessions. A 2008 NFHS Baseball Rules book is required ($8.50 – available thru the LBL) (The 2006 or 2007 book is satisfactory.) You must be age 15 on August 1st , 2009, to umpire for the LBL. ~ We feel that a young umpire not only learns the “Rules of Baseball”, but also has the opportunity to learn valuable job skills for the remainder of his life. ~ Umpires are required to be dependable and responsible to their schedule and show up promptly for games they schedule to work. ~ Umpires will need to be able to communicate with coaches, umpires, players, and league personnel. ~ An umpire can develop good decision making skills, if they work hard to know the rules and to get the ruling correct on the field. ~ Experienced umpires can develop leadership skills while mentoring younger and less experienced umpires. ~ We are flexible with our scheduling, so umpires can work when they are available. We encourage them to continue playing baseball on a team, if they desire. ~ New umpires will learn and develop skills working the recreational program. Umpires who have used uniforms, equipment, etc. that you have out grown, please consider offering them to new umpires at a reduced cost, or donate to the league to distribute. The LBL will schedule the most experienced and qualified umpires for the competitive games. The selected umpires must participate in one of the “Majors Clinics” for training and should be at least 16 years of age. If you have any questions, please e-mail Kevin Schrenk |
